Gentrification in Rome
With this tour, together with a cultural association from Rome, we will accompany you among the painted walls of a gentrified neighborhood of Rome.
We suggest that you dedicate a morning to the study of the paintings murals that dot the Street Art District. We meet in Ostiense to start as paleographers of contemporary, focusing on signs, symbols, quality of the features, reflecting on the intention of the hand that has them paintings and looking at the biography of non-anonymous authors. The artistic production of the Ostiense district must be appreciated in its singularity and also in its complexity. Studying the Ostiense murals retraces the entire evolution that the urban visual arts have experienced internationally.
Which ties are established between the wall and Street Art? Let’s retrace the history of the walls of Rome and above all of its inhabitants. Who lives in these buildings? What relationship exists between Street Art and the rise in property prices?
We will explore together the urban history, economic data and social geography of Rome to consider the impact of gentrification on the city.
