How is the Marine Conservation program in Alonissos structured?

1. Access to all non-certified participants (students) to eLearning interactive guide, to cover the theory part and learn about scuba diving principles and terminology at their own pace. Possible study offline, or online using a computer or mobile device, while choosing the language they prefer. It is strongly recommended for all participants to progress in theory along with the practical inwater sessions if not finished it well before the dives start. (eLearning time commitment: 5-10 hours) 2. Guided practice for all non certified participants in confined, shallow water (all in the sea) which will help the students to relax and to feel confident with their diving equipment and to help them build confidence in their new abilities before making the rest of the dive(s) in open water reaching gradually a max depth of either 12m or 18m, depending on their progression on the practical and theoretical requirements. The students will learn basic scuba skills with a highly trained PADI Instructor. (Total time commitment: In as little as 2-4 days) 3. By the end of the course, the students will have the skills and knowledge to dive with or without a diving professional and be an ambassador for the underwater world. PADI Scuba Diver or PADI Open Water Diver will be the potential certification levels for the students who complete all the relevant course requirements. For participants who are already certified, there is the option to get progressive training (next level) and potentially earn an additional certification either by completing the entry-level training or by following a specialty course (Peak Performance Buoyancy or other) through a contuining education scheme offered by a highly trained PADI Instructor, which will permit them to engage more efficiently to all other inwater activities and marine conservation programs. 4. All necessary equipment to dive is included in the services, along with the certification fees, the eLearning theory material, a highly trained PADI Instructor as well as a certified assistant if necessary, and the boat/car transfers to all dive sites.

How much money should I bring to my program?

Once you've booked your program, be sure to reach out to your local coordinator to get the scoop on the cost of living in your destination—it can differ quite a bit! And don't forget to budget for public transportation, emergencies, airport drop-off, snacks, fun activities, and a bit of local shopping. Happy planning!

How many people will be I be volunteering with?

Depending on your program and project, you might be joined by other ImpacTrip volunteers, but usually, you’ll either be on your own or with local volunteers. It's a fantastic opportunity to connect with locals and immerse yourself in the community and its lifestyle!

In case of need, how do I get health care?

All volunteers must arrive with private health insurance that covers the costs of any health service that may arise in their program destination.
With this insurance you can be treated at any private or public medical center. The medical expenses will be paid by you and when you return to your country you will have to present all the invoices to your insurance so don't forget to budget medical emergencies.
In the case of European volunteers, to facilitate the process, it is advisable to come with your European Health Card.

Do I need to speak the local language?

No, you don't need to have any previous skills in the local language! All of our programs are run entirely in English and our guides and staff are all comfortable speaking English as well. However, we always encourage our participants to get acquainted with some of the most basic terms and expressions, as even just a simple "Good morning!" in the local language can be a great icebreaker to start interacting with the locals! There are also language lessons available for volunteers that can be booked before or upon arrival.

How and when do I get my volunteer certificate?

You can request your volunteer certificate to ImpacTrip or the local coordinator at the end of your program.
